Tourists and locals in San Francisco were taken aback on Wednesday, April 24 as they came across an unusual sight – three actors dressed up as apes riding horses along the beach at Crissy Field. This intriguing spectacle was part of a commercial shoot for “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” scheduled to be released next month.
The trio of simian-dressed riders, filmed against the picturesque backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge, had been spotted earlier in Los Angeles on Venice Beach as well. As part of an interesting marketing tactic, it’s possible that this scene will repeat itself at another California location too.
This upcoming film is the tenth instalment in the popular sci-fi franchise which dates back to 1968 with “Planet of the Apes.” The series has since produced a number of sequels and remakes, including Tim Burton’s version from 2001. A new saga began in 2011 with the reboot “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” followed by two more movies – “Dawn” (2014) and “War” (2017). The lead ape character, Caesar, was played by Andy Serkis.
The new movie’s cast includes Freya Allan as Mae, the main human protagonist, Owen Teague playing Noa – one of the leading apes in this storyline and Kevin Durand and Peter Macon also feature in it. The film is set 300 years after the previous release, exploring a futuristic world where humans and apes compete for power.
