Joel Embiid, star center for the Philadelphia 76ers, has disclosed that he is dealing with Bell’s Palsy and has been combating it over the past ten days as his team battles against elimination in their series versus the New York Knicks. The condition causes partial paralysis of facial muscles, which Embiid confirmed was affecting him during Game 3 after scoring an impressive playoff record total of fifty points to aid the Sixers’ win. Treatment for Bell’s Palsy is ongoing as it has not shown significant improvement since its onset following a game against Miami Heat in the play-in tournament on April 17th. Embiid explained that his left eye experiences rapid dryness, and he still suffers from migraines. Fans observed slight stiffness during Game 2’s broadcast due to dissonance between movements of both eyes. Nonetheless, the reigning MVP intends to soldier on with grit despite these impediments, describing it as “annoying but not an excuse”. The condition may take weeks or months to improve completely.
