Garvey Promises Senate Action on Campus Anti-Semitism amid Israel Conflict

Steve Garvey, former MLB player running for Senate against Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff, has promised that if he wins in November’s election to replace retiring Senator Dianne Feinstein, he will push Congress to call Ivy League universities and colleges before them to answer questions about their failure to protect Jewish students from anti-Israel protests on campus. Garvey argued that these institutions should be held accountable for failing to safeguard American citizens who are being subjected to violent demonstrations that infringe upon their spiritual, physical, and mental wellbeing. He urged the authorities to take strong legal action against protestors as they were committing acts of terrorism under the guise of free speech rights. Garvey’s comments come at a time when Israel is engaged in an ongoing conflict with Hamas militants that has resulted in almost 1,300 Israeli deaths and thousands more civilian fatalities since October 7th this year alone. There have been several universities across the USA reporting mass student-led anti-Israel protests over recent weeks including Yale University, MIT, UC Berkeley, USC, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Northwestern University, Vanderbilt University, Michigan State, and the University of Virginia, amongst others, many accusing students supporting Israeli military operations for promoting hate speech on social media. Garvey’s call to action follows a similar move by some 40 American senators who urged US Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier this week in a letter calling for increased pressure and accountability from the United Nations Human Rights Council over alleged Hamas violations, accusing it of systemic failure against Palestine’s territorial integrity.
