“Humanitarian Crisis at the Border”: Larry Hogan’s Call for Action during Southern Visit and Senate Campaign

Rewriting in own words: Yesterday, Larry Hogan—the former Governor of Maryland who is currently running for the open Senate seat from his state—visited the southern border in McAllen, Texas while campaigning. He met with law enforcement and safety officials during this visit and revealed to Fox News that he came to grasp firsthand insights regarding “this crisis”, asserting that it should horrify every American. Hogan declared that the ongoing predicament at the borders is a humanitarian catastrophe, causing harm in communities across America while wreaking havoc everywhere else. He further stated that each day Washington fails to address this issue with bipartisan action amounts to failing the people of America. The former Governor also mentioned that for decades politicians have been playing political games instead of solving problems related to immigration. Hogan concluded by stating that enough is enough and vowed, “in the Senate, I will fight until both parties put aside their politics in order to resolve this issue.” It should be noted here that a border crisis has persisted since at least four years ago, as demonstrated by 2023’s record-breaking two million encounters alone. Thus far into fiscal year 24, the figures for these sorts of crossings exceeded one point three million. Democrats and Republicans alike have found it difficult to locate mutually acceptable solutions that can pass both chambers of Congress in response to this crisis. The Biden administration has suggested additional resources along with immigration reform as possible remedies; meanwhile, most GOP officials blame the reversal of Trump-era policies by the current White House for causing the problem at hand. In a recent poll conducted jointly by The Washington Post and University of Maryland, Hogan emerged victorious against both top Democrats in contention: Rep. David Trone (D) as well as Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, who are seeking nominations from their party for the Senate race. In this survey, Hogan beat out Trone by a margin of 49% to 37%, while he prevailed over Alsobrooks in turn, getting about sixty more points on forty-five percentage level votes when juxtaposed with her result.
