In an update from earlier this week, authorities have arrested a former athletic director at Pikesville High School in Maryland for using artificial intelligence (AI) to create false audio recordings containing racist and antisemitic remarks attributed to his boss. Dazhon Darien, 31, was charged with stalking, theft, disruption of school operations, and retaliation against a witness after both the FBI and experts at UC Berkeley found that he generated AI voiceover footage that presented himself as his supervisor berating black and Jewish students along with colleagues who he said were undeservingly employed in PHS’ ranks. School employees allegedly leaked an altered transcription to teachers, parents, and pupils on social media platforms following the incident last month. The recording resulted in a wave of hateful messages against Eiswert, forcing him out temporarily from his position at school while also causing significant disruptions for staff members and students alike. Baltimore County School Superintendent Myriam Rogers revealed that disciplinary proceedings had begun on Darien’s end while authorities are investigating the roles other faculty members played in circulating these fraudulent recordings during court appearances made earlier today.
