Reps Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) European tour has been disrupted by protests at her speaking engagements, with demonstrators interrupting and disrupting her events. During a ceremony awarding her an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from University College Dublin on Monday, the UCD Students’ Union president Martha Ni Riada stood up to denounce Pelosi as a “Zionist war criminal” before being forcibly removed by security guards. In response, Ni Riada accused the university of silencing students while platforming Israeli politicians and warmongers.
At Oxford University in England on Thursday, where she delivered the Benazir Bhutto Memorial Lecture named after Pakistan’s first female prime minister, a student silently unfurled a Palestinian flag at Pelosi’s podium despite boos from the crowd. The Youth Demand activist group later claimed responsibility for the protest and criticized universities for giving platforms to “warmongers” like Pelosi while children are being killed in conflicts around the world.
Pelosi has been a vocal advocate of a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but she also called on Benjamin Netanyahu’s resignation as Israel’s prime minister. The Washington Examiner reached out to both Oxford Union and University College Dublin for comment about Pelosi’s appearances in Europe being met with protests from demonstrators denouncing her policies towards the Middle East region.
