The disgraced former Paralympian athlete Oscar Pistorius, who served nine years in prison for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, has been seen in public for the first time since leaving jail last month. In photos published by South African news site Netwerk24, Pistorius appears happy but much thinner than he was during his imprisonment and is now fully grey-haired at the age of 37. The athlete had been living with an uncle in Pretoria since being released on parole earlier this year after serving part of a 13-year sentence for killing Steenkamp, who died aged just 29, in February 2013. As well as the ban from using social media and having contact with the family of his former girlfriend – both stipulations attached to being on parole until at least 2029 – Pistorius is also required by law to undergo “anger management” therapy, according to reports in the UK’s Mirror newspaper. The athlete had previously been known as ‘Blade Runner’, due to his prosthetic legs which he used when competing against able-bodied athletes during London 2012 Olympics. He was born without fibula bones and underwent amputations below both knees before the age of one, Fox News reports that Michael Ruiz and Elizabeth Pritchett contributed reporting for this article.
