RNC Chair Michael Whatley appeared on “America’s Newsroom” yesterday, claiming that the recent trial of former President Donald Trump in New York has led to an increase in small-dollar campaign donations for his potential 2024 run. According to Whatley, this surge is a result of Biden’s team being forced into defense mode while Trump continues to play offense across all battleground states. He also criticized President Joe Biden’s interaction with the press and questioned whether Democrats will shield him as they did in 2020. Despite the Democratic Party having an advantage in fundraising ahead of November’s election, Whatley claimed that every day Trump spends in court results in $1 million or more worth of small-dollar donations online. He also highlighted Biden’s lackluster schedule and suggested Republicans are building strong support for their message as the general election draws closer. Furthermore, Trump himself commented on this trend during a visit to an Upper Manhattan bodega last week, stating that it is having a “reverse effect” and has helped him connect with everyday Americans such as construction workers he met at a job site in New York City yesterday morning while Biden was still sleeping.
