Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) had to deliver a speech at an upscale dinner event in San Francisco while dressed casually after thieves stole his luggage. The incident took place when he was not present, as his car parked in a downtown garage fell prey to the robbers on Thursday. At the same night’s campaign dinner hosted by attorney Joe Cotchett, Schiff drew some lighthearted teasing from him due to his unconventional attire at an elegant gathering. “I guess it’s ‘Welcome to San Francisco,’” joked Lee Houskeeper, spokesman for Cotchett. However, the lawmaker seemed unfazed by this turn of events and gracefully thanked Joe during his speech, saying, “Yes, they took my bags. But I’m here to thank Joe.” Schiff’s undaunted conduct only amplified Joe Cotчеt’s approval, according to the reports that came in subsequently from sources close to him, as he reaffirmed: “Adam really showed himself tonight. He’ll be a great senator — he’s going to change the Senate tremendously.” In fact, car break-ins have witnessed an all-time high spike across San Francisco over recent years; the city’s police department recorded 1,670 such incidents just during a period of one month in last year.
