Slotkin’s Questionable Consulting Firm Raises Eyebrows Ahead of Senate Bid

Reps from the Democratic party in Michigan, Elissa Slotkin who is currently running for Senate in a crucial state called battleground Michigan has come under scrutiny over an LLC she established back in 2017 just weeks before announcing her candidacy to unseat incumbent Republican. According to reports by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Slotkin’s consulting firm Pinpoint Consulting is currently not in good standing as it was last reported for annual fees in 2019.
The lackluster performance of her business seems to suggest that it has never generated any income since its establishment back in June 2017 when she announced her campaign against then-Republican Rep Mike Bishop. Slotkin’s website from October 2017 claimed, “I’m a third-generation Michigander and spent my early life on a farm in Holly, Michigan where I currently live and run a small consulting business.”
In an ad launched by End Citizens United to endorse her back then they cited that Slotkin was indeed ‘a small business owner.’ However, when looking at the financial disclosure report filed with the House clerk in August 2018 which listed her as the founder and CEO of Pinpoint Consulting had a comment added on it stating that since its establishment two years back in 2017 the firm has not generated any income or revenue.
Slotkin served under the Department Of Defense from October 2013 till January 2017 where she also left with no recorded salaries paid out by Pinpoint Consulting ever despite serving for close to four decades as a government official before that. Slotkins’ campaign did not provide any clarity on whether there were indeed clients, revenues or employees associated with her firm during this period although none of these have been revealed in the financial disclosures submitted till date.
Some critics feel skeptical about Slotkin’s explanation and instead think it could be a way to mask some more intricate details related to its formation before announcing her candidacy for Congress back then. Jason Cabel Roe, who led the Congressional Leadership Fund’s effort in 2018 to support Bishop said that “She was running against a sitting member of Congress in a Republican-leaning district and everybody was wrapping their arms around small businesses” at the time.
Roe further added that Slotkin tried hard to portray herself as an ‘independent’ moderate republican during her campaign back then, but once she won the election, “I bet she never talked about it again after 2019.” This move by Roe could be seen as a way of questioning Slotkins’ credibility and authenticity towards entrepreneurial spirit since some may question why did such an ‘experienced’ businesswoman fail to generate any income from her firm despite being in operation for two years.
Slotkin is currently considered the front-runner by many political analysts, including The Cook Political Report as a leading Democrat running for Senate elections to replace incumbent Sen Debbie Stabenow who has announced that she will not be seeking reelection this year after over four decades of representing her party at State Level politics in Michigan.
