England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is confident that his team can win the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament in Germany this summer. The Liverpool player expressed his optimism during an interview with CNN’s Darren Lewis, stating: “Win the trophy.” Alexander-Arnold has not had a significant amount of game time so far in 2024 due to injury but recently returned for Liverpool and scored from a free-kick against Fulham. His focus now is on convincing England coach Gareth Southgate that he deserves a place in the squad, having missed out on Euro 2020 due to another knee injury, then not appearing until substitute duty at this year’s World Cup in Qatar where they ultimately reached the final but lost against Italy. Despite typically playing as a right-back for his club side Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold sees himself as an effective midfielder when representing England and feels he could partner Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid. The 25-year-old hopes to be selected in the starting lineup at Euro 2024, saying: “I want to start at the Euros. I want to be a name on the teamsheet.”
