Anthony Rendon’s Injury Woe Continues: Partially Torn Hamstring Sidelines Him for Two Months as Angels Fall Further from Playoffs Dream

For Anthony Rendon, the year 2024 was supposed to offer some redemption after his seven-year, $245 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels ahead of the 2020 season. The third baseman’s outstanding three seasons preceding 2019 witnessed more than five wins over replacement level thrice, and two outings where he surpassed an on-base percentage above .400. His first year in Anaheim was a sign of things to come as Rendon compiled a batting line that was 52% better than league average during the shortened season with .286/.418/.497 statistics, contributing 2.5 WAR in just fifty-two games. However, from 2021 through 2023, Rendon struggled with injuries and played only one hundred thirty-eight matches over three years while offering a mere 1.4 wins during the same period after accumulating eighteen point two wins between 2017 and 2019. His misery escalated prior to the start of this season when he told reporters that baseball was not his top priority, which created confusion since he earned $35 million annually playing the game. And now Rendon’s injury woes have continued as earlier in April, it became known that the Angels player had sustained a hamstring strain necessitating a leave from action. Nonetheless, during recent discussions with media men, Anthony declared it to be much worse; his hurt isn’t only an ordinary hamstring strained but also includes partial tears, which will sideline him for almost two months- an unfortunate development that would surely annoy the baseballer as he’s already been deprived of playing time in four consecutive years. “I was angry for a few days, frustrated and mad about everything you could imagine because the game keeps getting taken away from me,” Rendon stated to reporters during recent discussions on his injury woes. Although injuries aren’t pleasant experiences for athletes, it’s reasonable that individuals might think such misfortunes do not really disturb Rendon when he declares how little significance baseball carries in his life since he earns a significant amount of money playing the game- an assumption that becomes inevitable following such remarks regarding top priorities. Regrettably for Los Angeles and particularly superstar Mike Trout, whose own prospects aren’t encouraging currently owing to the team’s performance after fourteen matches which indicates no likelihood for the franchise competing this term regardless with Rendon’s prior outstanding form or not- Anthony’s injury woes have made it almost impossible that he will return to his former self in 2024.
