Britney Spears has reached a settlement with her father, Jamie, nearly three years after his involuntary removal as conservator amid disputes between the star and other legal parties involved. The specific terms of their agreement have not been disclosed by lawyers for both Britney and Jamie, although in statements to CNN they described it as an amicable resolution that brings closure to a long-standing conflict.
Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart praised his client’s “icon” status while confirming the settlement had put her freedom on equal footing with that of other adults, noting she no longer required involvement in legal proceedings surrounding this matter due to its completion as desired by Spears herself. Jamie Weingarten, representing Britney’s father, told CNN that he was pleased about bringing a close to everything and acknowledged his love for the singer while insisting there were never any malicious intentions on his part throughout their dispute.
The pop star had been under her father’s control since 2008 following allegations of mental health concerns that triggered an order by the court in which he was appointed as conservator overseeing all aspects related to Spears’ finances and medical decisions, including those concerning personal life choices such as marriage or childbirth. However, this arrangement came under scrutiny after a series of public statements made by Britney during her June 2021 testimony in court where she accused the conservatorship of being “abusive” and demanded its termination immediately.
Following that hearing, Spears was granted permission to appoint new legal counsel outside of those assigned previously; Rosengart’s involvement saw a swift end for Jamie as her father last September after an investigation into allegations against him regarding financial management of the conservatorship had commenced before being concluded without charges pressed. Since then, Britney has been actively engaged in various creative endeavours such as releasing two songs and writing an instant best-seller memoir “The Woman In Me.” She continues to post videos on social media platforms showcasing her dance moves while expressing gratitude towards fans for their support during the conservatorship.
