A 20-year-old named Caden Mura from Valparaiso, Indiana died during an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement officers in northwestern Indiana on Thursday. The Porter County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity following the incident. According to court records reviewed by local news source, The Times of Northwest Indiana, Mura previously pleaded guilty to a charge of resisting law enforcement last fall. This is not the first time that Mura has encountered resistance from authorities as evidenced in previous legal proceedings. Investigations into Thursday’s incident are ongoing and officials have yet to release further details about the cause or manner of death, pending an autopsy and toxicology results. The Indiana State Police (ISP), who were called out to respond to a suspicious person displaying a handgun near Valparaiso’s Fairgrounds Park earlier that day, stated that officers encountered Mura as they approached him. As the situation escalated, Mura fled from police and an exchange of gunfire occurred during the foot pursuit that ensued thereafter. The wounded suspect was subsequently taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
