Democratic governors from blue states have criticized Republican South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem after a story detailing how she killed one of her hunting dogs went viral. Gov. Tim Walz shared an image of himself feeding his dog, adding the comment “Post a picture with your dog that doesn’t involve shooting them and throwing them in a gravel pit,” following which other Democratic governors responded by sharing photos of themselves with their own pets to mock Noem. Governor J.B. Pritzker from Illinois shared an image of his dog standing between American and state flags, while New Jersey’s Tim Murphy joined in too by posting a photo of him lying on the floor next to his pet canine. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) also weighed into the criticism, calling Noem’s actions “truly disturbing” as part of an official statement released to media outlets. Their comments come after extract from Noem’s new book “No Going Back” described how she shot and killed her 14-month-old female dog Cricket because it was deemed ‘untrainable’. The Governor confirmed the incident on social media, describing it as a “tough” decision that comes with farm life. However, this explanation did not stop criticism from other lawmakers.
