Michigan Wolverines linebacker Junior Colson donned Maze n’ Blue uniforms during his college career under the guidance of current Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh. The Chargers, who ranked 28th in total defense last season and needed a boost on their defensive unit due to an aging core with injury concerns, selected Colson in the third round (69th overall) during this year’s NFL Draft thanks in part to Harbaugh’s advocacy. As his former coach at Michigan, Harbaugh was well-acquainted with Colson’s abilities and expressed immense delight as he broke the news of the Chargers drafting their Wolverines alum. With his physicality on defense, athleticism in space, and ironman toughness, analyst Dane Brugler believes that Colson has what it takes to be an NFL starting MIKE linebacker early into his career. By joining forces with Harbaugh again in Southern California, Colson found himself in a favorable situation due partly to the power of having influential connections.
