Maher Slams Anti-Israel Activists for Narcissism During Traffic Disruptions

Renowned comedian and political commentator Bill Maher slammed anti-Israel activists during his late-night show “Real Time” on Friday for causing traffic congestion while protesting against the Jewish state. He argued that such demonstrations were an example of how ‘activism merges with narcissism’ as protesters seemed more concerned about promoting themselves than advancing their cause.
Maher, who is known for his support for Israel and criticism of its detractors, accused these activists of being privileged because they prevented people from going to work or picking up their children from daycare. He mocked the ousted Google employees who protested against the company’s business dealings with Israel as well as those who blocked traffic in cities across America following Hamas’ attack on southern Israel last October that killed around 1,200 people.
Maher also criticized anti-Israel protesters for failing to understand and distinguish between various human rights abuses taking place worldwide while fixating solely on the Jewish state. He questioned why these activists were particularly outraged about Israel’s policies rather than condemning atrocities committed by other countries such as North Korea, China or Myanmar.
The comedian also ridiculed those who protest against Israeli businesses and institutions by smearing artworks with mashed potatoes and mud slung as nothing but juvenile nonsense unbefitting the seriousness of human rights issues. He further questioned why Google employees were fired for staging an anti-Israel sit-in while other atrocities such as North Korea’s starvation, China’s concentration camps or Burundi President’s homophobia garnered no similar protestations from the same people who decried Israeli actions.
Maher further accused these activists of being ‘privilegey,’ stating that they were more concerned about promoting themselves than advancing their cause while also questioning whether such protests genuinely stemmed from a desire to fight injustice or if it was just an opportunity for self-promotion and attention seeking. He concluded by warning anti-Israel activists against conflating the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) with Hamas, Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Houthis, and other fundamentalist oppressive groups that genuinely pose a threat to human rights around the world while also accusing Israel of genocide despite its reluctance to do so.
