Rewritten article: The New England Patriots may have drafted the most self-confident rookie in Javon Baker, but there is room for improvement when it comes to interview skills. With the 110th pick (fourth round) of this year’s draft, the Patriots chose Baker, a 22-year-old wide receiver from UCF Golden Knights who could use some coaching in front of cameras.
Baker transferred from Alabama and played for two seasons at UCF where he appeared in 27 games and recorded impressive statistics – catching 108 passes for a total of 1,935 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns. He’s known as an explosive player with outstanding big-play potential coupled with exceptional body control on the field.
After getting drafted by New England in April this year, Baker spoke confidently about his style during a virtual press conference but might have regretted some of what he said afterward. When asked to describe how he plays football, Baker responded: “Come to the stadium and bring your popcorn! That’s all I can tell y’all – bring your popcorn because people in wheelchairs are going to want to stand up!”
Baker certainly has an electric style of play that is reflected on his game footage from UCF. However, it would have been wiser for him not to involve disabled individuals in such a bold statement during the introductory press conference as he could come across as being insensitive towards their experiences while playing football at any given moment in time.
