Nick Saban’s expertise in sports analysis is a true work of art to witness. Following his retirement from Alabama, the legendary coach has become an integral part of ESPN’s NFL Draft coverage, and it’s clear that this was a smart move on their end. The man’s wealth of knowledge can be considered a steal, regardless of how much he may or may not earn from it. On Friday night during the second round of the draft, Saban broke down what makes an athlete possess great instincts and intuition, captivating viewers with every word uttered. In essence, Saban explained that while coaching can teach a player how to swing a baseball bat or identify where the strike zone is located, it’s impossible to instill in them the innate ability to discern whether an incoming pitch will be beneficial for hitting during its travel from the pitcher’s hand to home plate. Similarly, when playing defensive back, coaching can teach players how to intercept passes and make tackles, but not exactly at what juncture these moves should be made as they happen incredibly quickly; it’s instinctual talent that distinguishes great athletes in this regard. ESPN needs to compensate Saban generously because whatever his remuneration might currently be is undoubtedly insufficient for the value he brings to their network. This video serves as a prime example of what makes him so exceptional, and I eagerly await further insights from Saban on College GameDay in future.
