Fox News’ Lawrence Jones recently interviewed South Dakota Republican Governor Kristi Noem during the Sturgis motorcycle rally to discuss various issues regarding Joe Biden’s presidency, however a recent controversy has drawn fierce backlash on social media. The Guardian published an excerpt from Noem’s upcoming memoir “No Going Back,” which details how she killed one of her hunting dogs named Cricket due to being deemed “untrainable.” According to the report, in her book, Noem wrote that she took Cricket, a 14-month-old female dog, to a gravel pit near her farm and shot it dead because it was “less than worthless” and “untrained.” She explained how the dog had ruined a pheasant hunt by going “out of her mind with excitement” and chasing birds. The governor also noted that Cricket went AWOL and ate several chickens on Noem’s farm, leading to its eventual killing.
Noem’s post about the controversy received nearly six million views in just a day, causing an outpouring of horrified reactions from social media users, even among her conservative fans who argued that it killed her shot at being former President Trump’s vice presidential candidate. Independent journalist Tim Pool asked why she shared such a story while popular pro-Trump account “Catturd” seemed to take the matter personally and posted about it. New York Post columnist Miranda Devine commented, “No. Not normal. Shameful,” and Florida’s Voice News CEO Brendon Leslie called for Noem’s criminal charges due to animal abuse. Independent reporter “Publius” made a pun out of the anecdote while conservative influencer duo The Hodge Twins remarked that it was “wild” how she shared such a story and promoted her book at the same time.
