Two individuals were apprehended during an anti-Israel protest encampment at Princeton University last Thursday. The incident was captured by WTXF news station. A Jewish freshman from the same university revealed that he encountered severe antisemitism while attending the protests against Israel’s campaign to eliminate Hamas, a terrorist organization recognized as such by the US State Department.
The student, who goes by Meyer and is studying politics at Princeton University, claimed that during one of these demonstrations, he saw Hezbollah flags being flaunted without any surprise from other protesters or faculty members present on campus. This realization reinforced for him that this appalling instance served as further confirmation “that a moral decadence has taken root in our esteemed universities” – especially the Ivy League institutions of learning, which are widely regarded to be among America’s most prestigious academic centers.
Meyer also shared his experience with counter-protesters during these demonstrations against Israel at Princeton University. He explained that while he has been standing up for his beliefs since hostilities between the Jewish state and Hamas erupted following a deadly terrorist attack in Jerusalem, there have been occasions where more than ten students and professors demanded that Princeton divest from Israel and condemn its actions against Hamas. Meyer added that many of his fellow Jews did not wish to speak out for fear they might encounter hostility or harassment during the demonstrations, despite feeling compelled by their faiths to defend Jewish Americans’ right to exist in America as well as in Israel.
Meyer also revealed that he always holds both American and Israeli flags simultaneously whenever taking a stance on such contentious matters, underscoring his conviction that this action reflects not only the support of Jews for their homeland but equally expresses unwavering faithfulness to his position as an American citizen too. “When I carry my American flag alongside my Israeli flag,” he explained, “I understand that I’m standing up not just on behalf of Jewish people but also because it is inextricably linked with the United States.”
Meyer went further by highlighting how such protests have adversely affected his fellow Jews studying at Princeton University. He stated that students are now distracted during classes due to hearing chants calling for their genocide, which has become a common occurrence on campus since these demonstrations began. “These calls not only distract them but also reflect expressly antisemitic sentiment,” Meyer contended further in this regard before he finally expressed disappointment over certain professors like Max Weiss who supported the protest and specifically mentioned how Weiss, an associate professor of history at Princeton University had once made a speech that was marked by prejudicial rhetoric directed towards Jews.
Princeton University did not respond to requests for comment regarding these developments as this article went into publication on Monday afternoon Eastern Standard Time in North America. Earlier during the previous week, university police officers moved against protesters at Princeton’s campus after issuing warnings first, with two people ultimately getting arrested – an event that was documented by various news outlets like WTXF based near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (where this particular Ivy League institution is located).
Meyer commended the move taken by university authorities in this instance but went further to argue: “That’s not enough.”
