Robert F. Kennedy Jr., facing accusations of being a Democrat plant by former President Donald Trump on Truth Social last week, strongly denied the “wild and inaccurate claims” from his opponent during an appearance on X over the weekend. Trump alleged that Kennedy is a “Radical Left Liberal who’s been put in place in order to help Crooked Joe Biden…get Re-Elected”, adding that voting for him would be a “WASTED PROTEST VOTE”.
In response, Kennedy said: “When frightened men take to social media they risk descending into vitriol, which makes them sound unhinged. President Trump’s rant against me is a barely coherent barrage of wild and inaccurate claims that should best be resolved in the American tradition of presidential debate.”
Kennedy’s campaign has claimed to meet the criteria set by the Commission on Presidential Debates for independent candidates, which includes receiving 15% support in national polls and being listed as a candidate on enough ballots to potentially win the election. The states that have added Kennedy’s name so far – Nevada, New Hampshire, Hawaii and Utah – hold only eighteen electoral votes between them; well short of the two hundred seventy required for victory at this stage of his campaign.
Before becoming an independent candidate earlier on in the year, Kennedy worked as a prominent environmental lawyer. The Washington Examiner reached out to Trump’s camp but had received no comment by the time this article was published.
