Fox News national correspondent Bryan Llenas recently reported on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s increasing momentum as an independent presidential candidate ahead of the 2024 election, which was discussed in depth during a recent appearance on “Real Time” with Bill Maher. During their conversation, Maher grilled Kennedy over his lack of support from family members and dip in polling numbers. While several prominent Kennedys endorsed President Biden last week, Kennedy acknowledged that he couldn’t control them as there are 105 members of the family, some of whom work for Biden’s administration. He also emphasized how debates have been a part of his upbringing and encouraged healthy debate among family members while respectfully disagreeing with each other. Maher then brought attention to Kennedy’s decreasing poll numbers throughout his campaign. Although Kennedy initially led in November, he is now averaging below 10% according to the RealClearPolitics average of polls. When asked about a pathway to victory, Kennedy responded by touting that he beats both Biden and former President Trump among young voters under 35 years old as well as independents. However, Maher pointed out that these demographics don’t always vote consistently in elections. Furthermore, Kennedy is currently only on the ballot in three states but claims to have a favorability rating higher than any other political figure and believes he will be listed for all states very quickly. In response to suggestions from liberal friends urging him to drop out of the race so Biden can run unopposed against Trump, Kennedy argued that these individuals never suggest letting Biden continue because they believe in his cognitive capacity or vision for a better future regarding existential issues facing society today such as debt and chronic disease epidemics. Maher concluded their conversation by expressing hope that Kennedy would be included in the debates during the 2024 election cycle, emphasizing how these important topics should still receive attention regardless of who is running against whom at this time.
