Teenage runner Emmanuel Wanyonyi shattered the men’s road mile world record in Herzogenaurach, Germany on Saturday during his competitive debut over this distance at just 19 years old. The Kenyan athlete covered three miles (4.825 kilometers) in an astonishing time of three minutes and 54.56 seconds, breaking the previous mark set by American runner Hobbs Kessler in 3:56.13 back in 2019. Wanyonyi is primarily known for his prowess over the 800 meters as evidenced when he earned a silver medal at this year’s World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.
