The passing of boxer Ardi Ndembo at the age of 27 has been mourned by promoters Viva Promotions following three weeks in a medically induced coma after suffering a knockout during an April fight. The Congolese heavyweight was transported to hospital and placed into a coma, before ultimately dying earlier this week. Ndembo’s death came at the hands of opponent Nestor Santana during their Team Combat League bout in Miami on 5th April. Jeff Mayweather – Floyd Mayweather’s uncle who also works with Team Combat League – has spoken out about boxing’s inherent risks, stating: “Anyone can lose their life from boxing.” The league have paid tribute to Ndembo by giving him a 10-bell salute and pledging to match donations made through GoFundMe up to $25,000. Ndembo had an unbeaten record of eight wins prior to his final fight on April 5th; he is survived by wife and children.
