Weinstein’s Ongoing Legal Battles: Conviction Overturned in NY, Serving Time in CA and Charges Pending in London

One day after his rape conviction in New York was overturned by a appeals court due to the admission of irrelevant testimony, Harvey Weinstein is currently receiving medical care at Bellevue hospital. In a statement made on Thursday following the decision, defense lawyer Donna Rotunno said: “Justice was served… Courts cannot operate on emotion and lack of due process.” Although the conviction has been overturned in New York, this does not mean Weinstein will be released from prison as he is currently serving a 16-year sentence for sexual assault charges brought against him by four women in California. Furthermore, Weinstein still faces sexual offenses charges stemming from an incident which allegedly took place during 1996 in London. He has been found guilty of rape and forced oral copulation involving one woman known as Jane Doe 1 and was sentenced to a further 16 years imprisonment earlier this year. Weinstein’s return date for court is set for May 1st.
