Devastating Tornado Outbreak in Central US Leaves Trail of Destruction

First light tornado damages were witnessed in Sulphur, Oklahoma on April 28, 2024 as drone footage revealed destroyed businesses and homes along with overturned cars following an intense twister’s passing. This scene came into view during the recent wave of severe weather which encompassed Iowa to Texas throughout the weekend. The National Weather Service in Norman issued a record-breaking fifty-nine Tornado Warnings on Saturday alone, as reported deaths and widespread damages were confirmed across Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa after storm damage survey teams assessed these regions following this outbreak of severe weather. Two fatalities have been recorded by Holdenville police in the wake of this extreme weather event that affected numerous towns including Sulphur, Marietta, Ardmore, Mills Creek, and Dickson, all experiencing significant damages from the storms. Governor Kevin Sitt has declared a state-level emergency across twelve impacted Oklahoma counties owing to the occurrences reported so far during this weather event’s aftermath.
