From ‘Titanic’ Fan to Co-Star: Lily Gladstone Shares DiCaprio Dinner Invite Story Before Oscar Buzz

Lily Gladstone already had a deep admiration for Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie career before they worked together in the 2023 film “Killers of the Flower Moon.” As an avid fan, she recalled loving James Cameron’s epic romantic drama “Titanic” when it was first released. Gladstone even shared that she spent her allowance on a double VHS set from Toys ‘R Us as soon as it became available.
However, Gladestone clarified that while she appreciated DiCaprio’s performance in the film, particularly his portrayal of Jack Dawson, she didn’t fully embrace “Leo-mania” during its peak popularity. Instead, she loved the movie for its overall cinematic value and admired Kate Winslet as well.
Gladstone went on to say that although she had crushes in sixth grade around the time of “Titanic,” she never developed feelings for Jack Dawson himself but instead projected her own affections onto his character. Two decades later, Gladstone found herself sharing the screen with DiCaprio and received an invitation from him directly inviting her to dinner at his home via text message in 2021. After verifying that it was indeed Leonardo DiCaprio contacting her, she joined him outside by a fire where they conversed about their childhoods over dinner before the release of “Killers of the Flower Moon.” The movie has already gained significant awards season buzz since its October theater premiere and is currently available for home viewing.
