Jill Stein Joins Pro-Palestine Protest at Washington U., Faces Arrest Alongside Campaign Managers

Jill Stein, Green Party’s 2024 presidential candidate, was among at least 80 protesters arrested during a demonstration in support of Palestine at Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday. Her campaign manager Jason Call and deputy campaign manager Kelly Merrill-Cayer were also detained as part of the protest against the university’s ties to arms manufacturer Boeing, which produces munitions used by Israel in its ongoing conflict with Gaza. The Stein camp supports the students’ peaceful protests for peace and civil liberties, stating that student activism has always represented “the best part of our collective moral conscience”. Washington University confirmed that all those arrested will face charges of trespassing, while some may also be charged with resisting arrest or assault against police officers. A video shared on Twitter shows police using a bicycle to push protesters including Stein, which she condemned as “shameful.” Similar protests have taken place at universities across the US in recent days, with students calling for divestment from Israel due to escalating tensions and anti-Semitic sentiment. The University of Southern California has cancelled its main graduation ceremony because of campus unrest, while Columbia University is moving classes online until the end of semester owing to protest action there.
