Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has argued that voters are beginning to perceive former President Donald Trump’s ongoing legal battles as an attempt at interference in the upcoming presidential election between him and incumbent Joe Biden. During a recent appearance on Fox News, Jordan claimed that many people have predicted that Trump’s claims of absolute immunity would be sent back to lower courts, leading some to suggest that these trials are “all political.”
The Ohio representative went further by stating that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is allegedly attempting to charge Trump with a conspiracy related to the 2016 election. Meanwhile, Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into January 6th and alleged mishandling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago could be construed as an attempt to interfere in the upcoming presidential race. Jordan accused these prosecutors, along with Fani Willis from Georgia, of being part of a broader conspiracy aimed at influencing the outcome of the 2024 election.
Jordan criticized the Biden administration and Department of Justice for failing to provide answers regarding important issues such as who leaked information about last year’s Supreme Court decision on abortion or responsible individuals for recently-found white House drugs caches that may contribute directly toward potential allegations against Trump in courtrooms, while simultaneously allowing investigators like Smith to pursue charges.
Trump himself has taken advantage of these trials by frequently appearing before the press and supporters throughout his legal battles, which include being indicted on felony criminal charges over alleged financial misconduct stemming from business dealings with a former associate named Allen Weisselberg in New York City. Biden also recently spoke out about his own campaign, including comments that cast doubts as to whether an older president could be effective due to age-related concerns during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner over the weekend where he jokingly referenced himself and Trump’s respective ages while suggesting voters should consider who would make a better leader.
