Josting Biden: Colin Jost Pokes Fun At President In White House Correspondents’ Dinner Set

Colin Jost of Saturday Night Live didn’t waste any time in poking fun at President Joe Biden during his hosting duties at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night. Kelly O’Donnell, the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), introduced Jost by displaying some of his high school newspaper clips, which he thanked her for upon taking to the stage. “It’s not really fair,” jested Jost about Biden receiving such an honor. He continued, “You can’t do it for President Biden because the technology wasn’t invented when he was in high school.”
Jost went on to say that while he was excited to be sharing a platform with Biden due to his admiration of former president Barack Obama’s political prowess, following Biden isn’t always easy. “I mean it’s not always easy following what he’s saying,” Jost quipped.
Moving away from Biden, the SNL “Weekend Update” host commended the gathering of journalists and celebrities for recognizing that having a president in attendance at an event is something novel nowadays given President Donald Trump’s penchant for courtroom appearances during mornings. Jost also touched on some polling numbers ahead of Biden’s potential rematch against his 2024 opponent, declaring: “My ‘Weekend Update’ co-host Michael Che was going to join me tonight but in solidarity with President Joe Biden, I decided to lose all my black support.”
Despite this setback for Jost and the Democratic Party as a whole, he summarized November’s contest between Trump and Biden as one where “the Republican candidate for president owes half a billion dollars in fines for bank fraud” while spending his days dozing off during a porn star hush money trial. The race is currently tied.”
Jost then compared the two candidates, stating that Trump – a famous New York City playboy who has taken away abortion rights – and Biden – an 81-year old Catholic “who’s trying to give you your abortion rights back” are both vying for the presidency. He even dragged Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the independent presidential candidate, into the mix by highlighting his anti-vaccine stance in connection with his upcoming election campaign bid. Jost joked: “Like his vaccine card says, he doesn’t have a shot.”
Perhaps one of Jost’s funniest quips came at Biden’s expense as well; while acknowledging the cocaine that was discovered within White House walls last year, he declared, “Luckily for him (Biden), it turned out to be high-speed rail. By the way, can you blame the guy for turning to coke? He must be exhausted orchestrating four separate trials against his rival, rigging the Super Bowl and gearing up to steal a second election.” After delivering this zinger, C-SPAN cameras captured Biden laughing heartily at Jost’s expense.
