Former White House chief of staff Ronald Klain believes that if President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump face off in debates during the upcoming election season, they should be “different” from previous years. In an interview, Klain alluded to incidents during 2016’s first presidential debate when Trump disregarded moderating rules completely and made it impossible for a discussion of merit between him and Biden. As such, he suggested that the debates need to be structured in a way where both candidates receive equal time, have an orderly proceeding without any interruptions or shouting matches so voters can easily compare their proposals for leadership. Both Joe Biden and Donald Trump are vying for reelection this year; while Biden has expressed his readiness to debate the former president again, Trump is also eager to participate in debates “ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE.” However, it’s not clear if these face-offs will occur since organizers haven’t yet confirmed a date. The first presidential debate scheduled for September 16th at Texas State University remains uncertain as of now.
