Langeliers Rips Open Baseball Cover During Unusual Bat Flip

Oakland Athletics’ catcher Shea Langeliers achieved a unique feat during one of his at-bats on Saturday. Instead of hitting the ball out of the park or even making solid contact with it, he tore open its cover in an unexpected manner. While batting against Baltimore Orioles pitchers, Langeliers merely flicked the bat after foul bouncing back, exposing a sizable tear in the baseball’s seams that led to the disintegration of the ball’s outer covering too! At a velocity barely above 14 mph as registered by statcast systems installed for just such purposes at stadiums these days, Langeliers managed this impressive feat. It was an inconsequential foul bounce-back nevertheless and although rare occurrences have been documented before – including that of Roy Hobbs in the movie ‘The Natural’ – it did not result in any runs being scored as his team still ended up losing 7–0 against their opponents. Nevertheless, baseball fans worldwide cannot help but be awed by such unusual happenings!
