“MVP” Chants Echo as Knicks Defeat Embiid and Sixers in Wells Fargo Center

As Jalen Brunson sank his free throws at the close of New York Knickerbockers’ Game 4 victory over Philadelphia 76ers last Sunday, a chorus of “MVP” cheers echoed around Wells Fargo Center. A throng of devoted Knicks supporters had made their way from Madison Square Garden to support their team approximately two hours southwards and were duly rewarded by Brunson’s exceptional performance with the ball in his hands (47 points). As some enthusiastic fans departing Wells Fargo Centre, they could be heard hurling abusive remarks at Joel Embiid of 76ers.
Embiid was not pleased when he addressed reporters after Philadelphia’s loss and expressed discontentment over Knicks supporters inside the stadium during Sunday’s match-up. “Frustrating,” said Embiid, as quoted by SNY. “I love our fans.” He further elaborated that while it is in no way a callout against the visitors from New York City, he finds it rather disheartening to witness an influx of Knicks supporters inside Wells Fargo Center considering Philly’s long-standing tradition of dedicated fan bases dating back 10 years.
In addition, spectators from Big Apple kept disrupting Sixers enthusiasts at multiple instances in the course of Sunday’s game by loudly chanting and encouraging their team as they competed with local supporters who filled the arena throughout. Brunson, however, lauded Philadelphia fans for being relentless and passionate, comparing them to his own football club – Eagles – that he follows religiously. “This Philly fan base — I’ve said this before — is very determined and spirited,” shared the NBA guard who concluded the match-up with an exceptional scoreline of 47 points.
Embiid finished Sunday’s game scoring a total of 27 points, grabbing ten rebounds in the process while shooting at 12 out of his fourteen attempts from free throw line during the first quarter alone; but this could not prevent Philly’s defeat against Knicks. OG Anunoby and Miles “Deuce” McBride also played significant roles for New York, scoring a total of sixteen points each with Anunoby adding 14 rebounds to his scorecard as well.
With the victory under their belts last Sunday evening at Wells Fargo Center in Philly; Knicks have gained an all-important edge against Joel Embiid and company’s Nets with an overwhelming advantage of 3 –1 at playoffs this year, which will be further strengthened when they return to Madison Square Garden for the upcoming match.
