Patrick McMorris Realizes NFL Dream after Mistaking Miami Draft Call for Spam

While waiting to be selected during Saturday’s NFL Draft, Patrick McMorris received an unknown call. Thinking it was a spam caller, he hung up. However, the Miami Dolphins were actually on the line informing him that they had chosen him in the sixth round at 198th overall. Fortunately for McMorris, they called back as he initially mistook their initial contact as an unwanted call. The former Cal safety expressed his delight about realizing a lifelong dream of being drafted and playing professionally in the NFL. “You watch it on TV, year after year, these guys get picked, and now you’re experiencing that moment,” McMorris said. “It was definitely just an exciting experience.” In 2021, his most productive season as a collegiate athlete came during his one-year stint with Cal where he recorded 90 tackles, four and half tackles for loss, one interception, and seven pass breakups in thirteen games. McMorris believes that this experience helped him tremendously by enabling him to learn an entirely new playbook quickly and compete at a high level against talented Pac-12 quarterbacks like those who played last year. The Dolphins’ defensive back unit now includes three-time All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey, as well as former second-round pick safety Jevon Holland.
