Retired Cop Blasts Mayor over Slain Officer, Manhunt Continues for Armed Suspect in Chicago

Retired Chicago police lieutenant John Garrido appeared on ‘Fox & Friends First’ to express his anger towards Mayor Brandon Johnson regarding his response to Officer Luis Huesca’s tragic demise, as well as the impact of city leadership on law enforcement in Chicago. As the manhunt for suspect Xavier L. Tate Jr enters its seventh day, authorities have issued an arrest warrant accusing him of first-degree murder following the shooting death of Huesca last week. The 22-year-old is still at large and should be considered armed and dangerous according to police. Sources revealed that Huesca was shot nearly 20 times with what appeared to be a firearm fitted with an attachment making it into an automatic weapon, as he drove home from his shift in uniform near his family’s residence in Gage Park on April 21st. The officer’s service gun and badge were missing when the incident took place according to sources who spoke to Chicago Sun-Times. Police released a two-minute surveillance video showing Tate walking into convenience stores, outside, as well as inside one of them at approximately 9:54 p.m on April 20th. The suspect was previously arrested for criminal trespassing in Olympia Fields and had been scheduled to appear before the court regarding this case on Wednesday according to FOX32 Chicago’s report based on court documents. Authorities have announced a combined $100,00 reward for any information that leads to Tate’s arrest and conviction provided by Crime Stoppers, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the FBI, and Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). Officer Luis M. Huesca served with Chicago’s police department for six years before his untimely death on April 21st; he would have turned thirty-one two days later had fate been kinder to him. Anyone who has any information about Tate’s whereabouts is urged by authorities to contact Crime Stoppers at (800)535-7867 or submit an anonymous tip via CPDTip.com.
