Rolls-Royce is expanding its factory in Chichester, England by adding five new buildings with construction set to commence next year. Unlike typical car manufacturer expansions that aim to build more cars due to increased demand, Rolls-Royce’s expansion will focus on creating more expensive vehicles that require additional workshop and storage space for exotic materials and time-consuming customizations requested by ultra-wealthy clients. This move signals the growing trend of wealthy individuals spending increasingly larger sums of money per vehicle while requesting greater levels of complex customization options beyond a brand’s standard offerings, which has led to an increase in bespoke requests for Rolls-Royce and other luxury car manufacturers such as Bentley, Lamborghini, and Ferrari. This expansion is the first major development since BMW purchased Rolls-Royce in 1998 following its separation from Bentley in Crewe, UK where both brands were previously manufactured together until then.
