Two Ukrainian soldiers who had been receiving medical treatment in southern Germany died after being stabbed at a shopping center on Saturday evening by an alleged Russian national, according to authorities from both countries.
The German police stated that one of the victims, aged 36, passed away immediately following the attack in Murnau, while another victim, who was just 23 years old, died later in hospital nearby. Both Ukrainian men were residing in Garmisch-Partenkirchen as part of their medical rehabilitation program.
The suspected perpetrator has been identified by German authorities as a Russian national aged 57, and he was arrested at his home close to the scene where the attack took place. The investigation into this double murder is currently ongoing.
In response to these tragic events, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry released an official statement which confirmed that two Ukrainian citizens had been killed in Murnau am Stafelsee, Bavaria, Germany following a stabbing incident at a shopping center. It has also been reported by the ministry that both of the deceased individuals were military personnel who were currently undergoing medical rehabilitation whilst located abroad in compliance with prior arrangements reached through existing channels facilitated within Germany’s wider defense cooperation framework.
