The White House has denied reports that there was a secret plot to oust press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, claiming the allegations are “wildly false” and describing her bosses’ dissatisfaction with her habit of reading from notes as mischaracterized. Deputy White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates strongly refuted claims made by multiple sources with knowledge of such plans which suggested that prominent outside Democrats had been enlisted to encourage Jean-Pierre voluntarily depart, stating that neither Jeff Zients nor Anita Dunn, two senior advisors under President Joe Biden, carried out the purportedly devised scheme.
The denial came as a new CNN poll revealed more bad news for Biden’s reelection bid, with former president Donald Trump leading him by four percentage points in head-to-head matchups and enjoying nine percent support when third party candidates are factored into account; these numbers translate to an impressive lead against Jean Pierre if either candidate had picked her as their running mate. The poll also found that 55% of respondents viewed Trump’s presidency as a success, while Biden was deemed unsuccessful by the majority (61%) in contrast.
