Abbott Prioritizes School Choice Legislation as Texas Schools Rank High in National Report

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has placed passing school choice legislation as a top priority in his agenda. During an interview with FOX 4’s Steven Dial after the primary election, Abbott revealed that certain deals previously offered may no longer be on the table due to where things currently stand. In another educational-related news, Texas ranks high when it comes to excellent public schools as per a recent report by U.S. News and World Report. The annual “Best High School Rankings” for 2024 reviewed over 24,000 public high schools across the country based on factors such as state assessments, graduation rates, and college readiness scores. Texas boasts a total of ten schools in the top hundred with one school ranking among the best ten nationwide – The School for the Talented and Gifted located within Dallas Independent School District (DISD) earned an impressive 6th position on the list. Additionally, Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School ranked at No.23 while Science and Engineering Magnet School placed at number twenty-nine in the country.
