Armed Shoplifter Prompts Police Shooting in Glendale

GLENDALE, Ariz. – An armed shoplifter caused a police shooting in Glendale on Sunday afternoon after authorities received reports of his suspicious behavior at a hardware store near the intersection of Glendale and 51st avenues. As officers responded to the scene, they learned that the suspect had left the store while brandishing a firearm.
When one officer encountered him close by, it appeared as though he was pointing the weapon in their direction, prompting them to open fire. The first responding officer discharged his gun and hit the individual, who subsequently required medical attention but is expected to survive. Additional officers arrived on scene shortly afterwards and took custody of the suspect without further incident or injury.
Surprise Police are presently leading an investigation into this altercation in cooperation with Glendale authorities.
