Barkley Slams Galveston Beaches as Pelicans Struggle in NBA Playoffs

Galveston, Texas – During an NBA on TNT segment discussing the New Orleans Pelicans’ struggling performance in their playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, basketball analyst Charles Barkley made some disparaging remarks about Galveston beaches. Instead of using his usual phrase “going to Cancun” when referring to teams facing elimination from postseason play, he chose instead to say they were heading “to Galveston.” The remark was met with laughter by fellow commentator Shaquille O’Neal as Barkley continued with further insults directed at the Gulf Coast destination. He suggested that since New Orleans is 369 miles away (approximately a five-and-a-half hour drive), it would be more fitting to send them there rather than allowing them an exotic escape in Cancun. The Pelicans have failed to deliver in games two and three, each game lost by over twenty points – evidence which may lend credence to Barkley’s comments about the team deserving a less-than-luxurious vacation destination.
