Harry Jackson, a stepfather affected by the rollout of FAFSA reform, appeared on ‘America’s Newsroom’ to share how his family and countless others have been left in limbo due to delays caused by the Biden administration. His stepson was accepted into Purdue University but has yet to learn about potential financial aid rewards as a result of the botched implementation process. Jackson explained that this is causing significant stress for families across America, with many high school graduates unable to celebrate their achievements or make informed decisions regarding higher education due to uncertainty surrounding FAFSA applications. As reported by USA Today last week, Richard Cordray – COO of Federal Student Aid and a key figure in the Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness scheme – is set to step down at the end of June. Jackson argued that although there are moves to ease application procedures by 2024-25, these delays have resulted in only around 700,000 students completing FAFSA applications so far this year – a significant drop from last year’s figures. This has also led some universities to delay their own priority admission deadlines as families wait for financial aid rewards that should already be issued. Jackson argued that the delays are “literally on the same level” as Obamacare failures, with many families uncertain where their children will go due to dependence upon financial aid.
