During his concert at Madison Square Garden, music legend Billy Joel serenaded his former wife Christie Brinkley with the hit song “Uptown Girl.” It was a special moment as it marked the first time he performed the track in front of its inspiration. Despite divorcing nearly 30 years ago, Brinkely still holds that exclusive title for Joel – she is his only true “Uptown Girl” among several ex-wives. The pair have remained friends and even shared a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, who also graced the stage at her father’s show on Friday night. Billy Joel has been playing to sold out crowds as part of his residency at Madison Square Garden since 2014 – it will come to an end in July next year. In 2010, Joel finally admitted that “Uptown Girl” was written about Brinkley (she also appeared in the video) and although they were not romantically linked when he first penned the song, Elle Macpherson held his heart at the time. However, after splitting with her, Christie took on a more prominent role as Joel changed lyrics to reflect their relationship. Both Brinkley and Joel have since moved on – she was briefly married to Richard Taubman in 1994 before tying the knot again to Peter Cook two years later (they divorced eight years ago). Meanwhile, Joel wed Katie Lee Biegel in 2004 but split with her five years after they exchanged vows. In October last year, he walked down the aisle once more, welcoming model-scientist Alexis Roderick into his life – together they have two daughters.
