Rewriting the Article: “Man Sentenced for Plotting Murder of Ex-Wife and Boyfriend”
A Boston resident, Mohammed Chowdhury, has been sentenced to 92 months in prison after pleading guilty to attempting to hire a contract killer to murder his ex-wife and her new boyfriend. The court also ordered three years of supervised release following the imprisonment period. In January this year, Chowdhury admitted two counts related to using interstate commerce facilities for committing murders.
The plot was foiled when an informant alerted law enforcement in November 2022 that Chowdhury had been soliciting help with killing his former wife and her new partner after she left him, paying someone initially but then finding out they didn’t follow through on the plan. The FBI Boston Division’s Violent Crimes Task Force was involved when an undercover agent pretending to be a contract killer contacted Chowdhury about the murder-for-hire plot in December 2022 and January this year.
On several occasions during those months, Chowdhury met with agents posing as hitmen and their associates. He explained that his ex-wife was denying him access to his children after Westernization of her thinking caused them to split up, saying she was acting independently in opposition to Islamic practices they previously adhered too faithfully. Additionally, Chowdhury said he wanted the murder to be staged as a robbery and beating with no evidence left behind that could link him back to it.
Chowdhury provided agents with photographs of his ex-wife and her boyfriend along with their addresses and work schedules before ultimately agreeing upon payment in January, promising them $4,00 per victim ($500 as a deposit). On 17th January this year, Chowdhury met the undercover agent to provide him with the required sum. He was then taken into custody by law enforcement officials.
Acting U.S Attorney Joshua S. Levy stated that “Mr. Chowdhury literally thought he could get away with murder.” The case represents an extreme form of domestic violence, and authorities will use all available resources to protect women in abusive relationships from such dangerous individuals like Mohammed Chowdhury.
Chowdhury was previously charged for violating a protection order against his ex-wife back in October 2019. He pleaded guilty with the condition of being given probation without any further legal action taken.
