Bowie High School Shooting: Julian Howard Charged with Fatal Campus Murder of Etavian Barnes

Arlingtom police have arrested Julian Howard, a 17-year-old student from Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas, for fatally shooting another student named Etavian Barnes on campus last Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3 p.m., just as the dismissal bell was about to ring. Police officers present at the scene provided first aid and transported Barnes to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, having been shot five or six times. Howard allegedly tried to flee but was caught near the baseball field by school resource officers who were alerted by witnesses’ descriptions of him. The accused killer now faces murder charges while officers discovered that a THC cartridge also lay on him during the arrest. Authorities are still searching for the weapon used in this tragic incident, as they have not yet established how Howard managed to acquire it given their ongoing investigation into the matter. Arlington ISD has announced that classes will be canceled through Friday while counselors remain available at Bowie High School from 9 a.m until noon on those same days for affected students and staff members seeking support during this difficult time. The district is also reviewing security footage to determine whether Howard brought the gun inside, as metal detectors are installed in schools within their territory which may further corroborate if anyone deliberately sidesteps its installation or usage. FBI Dallas has expressed solidarity with Arlington police’s efforts by encouraging community involvement and support through reporting suspicious behaviors to aid ongoing investigations concerning public security lapses before events reach life-changing tragedy phases in both frequency levels as well as severity of outcomes. The district superintendent, Matt Smith stated that everyone involved needs some time to cope with this heinous occurrence at Bowie High School on Wednesday afternoon and should reflect deeply upon how violence cannot be the solution under any circumstance while Arlington Police Chief Al Jones furthered his plea for responsible gun ownership by urging people who own firearms to secure them properly, so they do not fall into minors’ hands.
