Charles Barkley sparked controversy over the weekend when he criticized Galveston, Texas for having “dirty-ass water” during a NBA on TNT post-game show. The comments did not sit well with Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, who was born in Galveston and posted a clip of Barkley’s remarks to Instagram along with a warning for the former basketball player. She wrote: “Chuck we don’t play about Galveston Texas! You better watch it sucker!” The video caught the attention of Beyonce herself as well, who asked her mother and Knowles if they were going to let Barkley talk about their city like that. However, in a lighthearted response, both women stated there was no beef between them and Jay-Z and Barkley issued an apology on Sunday’s show, stating: “Ms. Knowles: I don’t want that smoke.” While the matter appeared to be settled, during Monday’s broadcast of NBA on TNT, Johnson asked if Barkley still had a negative opinion about Galveston. To which he responded, “We’re not going there…That water is so dirty over in Galveston, I’d rather go to San Antonio with them big ol’ women.” It seems Texas might not be vying for any marketing roles with the disgraced player anytime soon.
