On Monday, several law enforcement officers were shot while conducting an investigation in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred as members of the U.S. Marshals task force served a warrant at a location on Galway Drive in East Charlotte. Two suspects reportedly opened fire on the officers during this operation. At least one deputy U.S. Marshal was struck by gunfire and later passed away, according to local media outlet WSOC. One of the suspected attackers is believed to have sustained injuries as well. The incident has led to road closures in order to facilitate transportation for the wounded law enforcement officials, with a SWAT team also being dispatched to the scene. Some nearby schools were placed on lockdown due to the ongoing situation which remained active at around 4 p.m., local time. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D-NC) expressed his condolences via Twitter and pledged state resources for assistance, while Democratic and Republican candidates vying to be the next governor also voiced their sympathy as well as Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles and Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Ted Budd (R- NC).
