Chilly and Wet Spring Ahead: Cold Fronts Bring Gray Skies, Rain through April

NEW YORK CITY – Following uncharacteristic bouts of sunny and warmer temperatures, Mother Nature has other plans in store for New York City as a series of cold fronts looms over the horizon, pledging extended stretches of chilly conditions. In fact, rain showers are forecast to hit parts of the region on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and next week, with no immediate end in sight. “It seems like we’re stuck with this gray sky and wet weather situation for a while now,” declared Mike Woods during FOX 5 NY news segment earlier today (April 19). A closer look at the rain forecast between April 20 through Sunday (April 24) reinforces Woods’ claim, revealing that persistent clouds will dominate over New York City and other Northeastern communities throughout the foreseeable future. Regarding thermostats readings for the region in question, it seems like we said goodbye to springtime highs of mid-60°F (18°C), low 70°F (21°C) or even upper 70°F (25°C). From Thursday onward and as a result of these incoming cold frontal waves, expect sub-standard temps with numbers either flirting closely with the freezing mark or hovering just above it. Today’s forecast calls for possible showers starting after five in the afternoon; mostly cloudy skies will prevail throughout the daytime hours, and temperatures are expected to peak at around 58°F (14 °C) shortly before this abrupt climate transformation is set into motion. Tonight should see more rainfall as steady precipitation levels remain intact for much of it – an ambient temperature somewhere close to approximately 53°F (12°C). Thursday’s weather forecast predicts a potential pre-noon decrease in temperatures down towards roughly around the midpoint of high 40s °F, coupled with occasional rainfall incidents prior to two o’clock PM. By contrast, on this same day and evening hours ahead, there will be nearly 80% likelihood of showers coming up – primarily occurring before eight at night when skies should clear out a little bit as the temperature hovers around roughly 48°F (9 °C). Friday’s forecast anticipates light rainfall possibly hitting regions starting after two PM while staying cloudy, and then the predicted afternoon temps might hit right around or even surpass half-a-hundred degrees Fahrenheit. By contrast, on this same day at nighttime hours ahead, there will be nearly 40% likelihood of showers when most places in our vicinity remain almost fully shrouded beneath a thick blanket of clouds as the temperature lingers somewhere around approximately fifty one degrees Fahrenheit (11 °C). Woods concluded his segment by emphasizing that rainy weather is likely to persist until at least Sunday, and only then could residents look forward towards drier days ahead. Moreover, spring’s balmier splendors should still prove elusive through most of April because no definitive break in the unsettled weather patterns are visible beyond those concluding dates for this month alone. FOX Weather’s Chris Oberholtz also contributed to this report.
