At least four people lost their lives during a tornado outbreak in Oklahoma triggered by strong thunderstorms that swept through North Texas on Saturday night and Sunday morning. The National Weather Service confirmed at least EF-3 tornadoes hit the cities of Sulphur and Marietta, with damage surveys underway to determine whether ratings could be higher. Governor Kevin Stitt declared a state of emergency in 12 counties after crews cleared debris following severe weather that brought down power lines, left thousands without electricity, closed roads due to damages from fallen trees, and caused injuries. In Sulphur alone, about thirty people were injured as at least four others perished across the region including a child who died inside a bar where around twenty individuals had taken shelter when tornadoes struck the area in their wake of destruction leaving many buildings reduced to rubble. The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management released reports on damages sustained by various locations, and authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that affected people have access to basic needs such as generator power, safe accommodations, and medical assistance while search-and-rescue operations continue in earnest.
